The memorial candle (also known as a yahrtzeit candle) is a candle traditionally lit on the Hebrew anniversary of someone's death as well as on Yom Kippur. In Yiddish, the word yahrtzeit itself translates to 'anniversary', or rather 'anniversary of a person's death'. Also used on the last days of Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot, a memorial candle is a must-have in any Jewish home!
